MORLAINE

Morlaine was born in Nantes in 1953. He studies architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Nantes, and finally turns to water painting.
Morlaine settles in the very heart of the salt marshes where he paints the sea, the old riggings, but also sea shores, harbours, old villas’ charms, beaches, he gives back through the transparency of water painting a strong lighting: - the intimacy of Brittany – Morlaine gives importance to details, his water paintings are sharp and precise.
He successfully carries on exhibitions in France: Paris, Nantes, Rennes, Versailles, and abroad: Belgium, Great-Britain, Netherlands.
He is chosen to participate to the Musée de la Marine Exhibition. In 1990, he discovers pastel.
From then on, a new material, a new technic lead him towards new writings.

A more colourful creation, more diversified and free changes his exhibitions.
Through pastel and its magical pigment, the artist magnifies colour and simplifies the form. He marries with subtlety colour expression with light.

“… The colour arbitrary conceived, for its decorative value, its power or poetic charm and without any realistic point…”

The themes chosen are then multiple and full of humor, often represented in an original manner:
Vache “déstructurée” se reflétant dans l’eau,
Régate dans le Golfe en aplats de couleur,
Melon d’Espagne sur graphismes contemporains.

A work in which colour intensity, pictural curiosity, theme variety make its originality and richness.
